92NY to host Megan Fairchild Masterclass for young dancers in March

The 92nd Street Y announced Friday that principal dancer Megan Fairchild of the New York City Ballet will lead Before the Bow: Masterclass Workshop on Sunday, March 15, offering young dancers a rare opportunity to train and learn from one of the nation’s leading ballerinas.

The full-day workshop, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is open to students ages 12–18. The morning will focus on classical technique and Balanchine choreography, including excerpts from Coppélia, one of Fairchild’s final performance roles. In the afternoon, participants will shift to a conversation on dancer wellness, moderated by her brother Robbie Fairchild, drawing from her book The Ballerina Mindset, which explores mental resilience, artistry, and life in dance.

“I’m very much looking forward to this master class day at The 92nd Street Y,” Fairchild said. “I’ve learned so much over the course of my career at NYCB, including how to conquer the physical and mental challenges, and I’m so excited to share it with the younger generation.”

Registration begins at $250 for the full-day workshop and includes a signed copy of her book and a photo opportunity with Fairchild. Higher-tier registration offers additional perks, including signed pointe shoes and workshop observation seats for family members.

Fairchild, a principal dancer with NYCB since 2005, has performed leading roles in classics such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and La Sylphide, and in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Alexei Ratmansky. She has also appeared on Broadway and is on faculty at the School of American Ballet. She will retire from NYCB in May 2026.

The masterclass is presented by 92NY’s Harkness Dance Center, supported by the Harkness Foundation for Dance.
