ZviDance will present the world premiere of DANDELION from November 13–15, 2025, at New York Live Arts, located at 219 W. 19th Street in Manhattan. The production is part of the New York Live Arts Independent Works series. Tickets start at $30 for standard admission and $20 for students and seniors.
DANDELION marks a continuation and deepening of choreographer Zvi Gotheiner’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between humanity and nature. Developed in collaboration with composer Scott Killian, lighting designer Mark London, and dancers Chelsea Ainsworth, Colin Heininger, Mizuho Kappa, Erin Maher, Tessa Russ, and Joe Tennis, the work investigates society’s perception of normalcy and beauty—and the consequences of striving to eliminate what is seen as imperfection.
The dandelion serves as a central metaphor for the piece: a plant often dismissed as a weed, yet one that embodies resilience, transformation, and quiet beauty. Through this lens, DANDELION examines the human impulse to control and categorize the natural world, inviting audiences to reconsider how we define worth and harmony.
The work also represents a deeply personal chapter in Gotheiner’s artistic journey. In March 2021, he experienced a stroke that paralyzed the left side of his body. This event profoundly altered his approach to choreography and collaboration, leading him to develop new ways of communicating movement while managing his own physical recovery. For DANDELION, Gotheiner began by working individually with each dancer, refining his process of translating movement ideas through both physical demonstration and verbal direction.
The result is a work rooted in vulnerability and resilience—an ensemble piece that reflects both the fragility and strength of the creative process. Through its intricate choreography, evocative lighting, and immersive soundscape, DANDELION continues ZviDance’s tradition of creating work that bridges the natural and human worlds with emotional depth and clarity.
