The South Street Seaport Museum will host Indigenous Dance Stories: Native American Heritage Month with Bare Feet on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Museum’s historic 1868 warehouse, A.A. Thomson & Co., 213 Water Street. This free program highlights Indigenous voices and traditions from around the world through dance, film, and storytelling.
The evening begins with a land and water acknowledgment by Louis Mofsie, founding member of the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers. Following the acknowledgment, the Museum gallery will feature a seated screening program, presenting four curated segments from the acclaimed PBS travel series Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi, including an exclusive first look at Season 8, premiering nationwide on December 1, 2025. Host and executive producer Mickela Mallozzi and series editor Jonathan Rogers will share behind-the-scenes insights on the process and responsibilities involved in presenting global Indigenous stories.
After the screenings, the program moves outdoors to Water Street for a live performance and participatory Friendship Circle Dance, led by Louis Mofsie. The evening concludes back in the gallery with a light reception.
The event is free, but preregistration is encouraged. Walkups will be accommodated as space allows. This program offers a meaningful way to honor Native American Heritage Month and experience the living traditions that continue to shape Indigenous cultural expression.
