The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY) presents an extraordinary evening of chamber music featuring violinist Tessa Lark, cellist Joshua Roman, and double bassist Edgar Meyer on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 7:30 PM on the Geffen Stage at Kaufmann Concert Hall, 1395 Lexington Avenue. Tickets start at $45 for in-person attendance and $25 for the livestream.
This performance brings together three of today’s most dynamic string artists, each celebrated for their technical mastery, adventurous repertoire, and seamless blending of classical and Americana traditions.
A Collaboration of Virtuosos
Seven-time GRAMMY Award-winning bassist and composer Edgar Meyer—renowned for his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Zakir Hussain, and the Emerson String Quartet—joins forces with two of the most exciting younger voices in contemporary chamber music. Their program includes selections by J.S. Bach and original compositions by Meyer, whose genre-defying style bridges bluegrass, classical, and jazz.
The trio’s recent performance at the 2025 Big Ears Festival earned a mid-concert standing ovation and widespread acclaim. Audiences can expect the same level of energy and innovation at 92NY, reminiscent of the spirit behind the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions, which featured Meyer alongside Yo-Yo Ma, Thile, and Stuart Duncan.
About the Artists
Tessa Lark has been praised for her technical brilliance and expressive versatility, equally at home in classical and bluegrass traditions. A 2020 GRAMMY nominee for Best Classical Instrumental Solo, she recently became the artistic director of both the Moab Music Festival and Musical Masterworks in Connecticut. Her 2023 album The Stradgrass Sessions features collaborations with Jon Batiste, Sierra Hull, and Michael Cleveland, blending Appalachian roots with contemporary innovation.
This fall, Lark premiered a new concerto by Lisa Bielawa with the Louisville Orchestra and will soon perform it with the Cincinnati Symphony. Her season also includes performances with orchestras and festivals nationwide, and a tour with Meyer and Roman performing Meyer’s new trio compositions.
Joshua Roman—praised by The New York Times for his “effortlessly expressive tone and playful zest for exploration”—is equally known as a composer and advocate for musical innovation. His 2024 solo album Immunity explores his experience with Long COVID through a deeply personal musical narrative that spans Bach, Caroline Shaw, George Crumb, and his own works. Roman continues to use his platform to raise awareness of resilience through art, with residencies at Stanford and Yale and appearances at the Aspen Ideas Festival and Carnegie Hall.
His 2025–26 season includes trio performances with Lark and Meyer, in addition to concerto appearances across the U.S.
Edgar Meyer, hailed by The New Yorker as “the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively un-chronicled history of his instrument,” is the only bassist to have received both the Avery Fisher Prize and a MacArthur Grant. His 2024 releases include As We Speak—his GRAMMY-winning collaboration with Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain, and Rakesh Chaurasia—and But Who’s Gonna Play the Melody?, a duo album with fellow bassist Christian McBride.
Meyer’s compositions have been performed by the New York Philharmonic and Joshua Bell, among others, and his newest string trio works—written for and performed with Lark and Roman—continue his tradition of redefining the limits of chamber music.
A Night of Boundless Musical Expression
Audiences attending the November 22 performance at 92NY can look forward to an evening that transcends genre and celebrates the shared language of strings. From Bach’s timeless counterpoint to Meyer’s rhythmically charged new compositions, this program promises to be both intimate and exhilarating—a meeting of three artists who embody the future of American string performance.
