The Amazing Sex Life of Rabbits, a new play by award-winning playwright Michael Shaw Fisher, will make its Off-Broadway premiere March 2 at SoHo Playhouse as part of the theater’s International Fringe Encore Series. The limited engagement runs through March 28 following an acclaimed debut at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
The four-hander centers on an uneasy dinner between two couples that spirals into a sharp, often darkly comic exploration of class conflict, intimacy and power. What begins as a tense reunion soon escalates into what Fisher describes as a modern-day class war, driven by nostalgia, sexual politics and a provocative proposal that forces each character to confront personal and societal divides.
Fisher, winner of the Drama Critics Award for Exorcistic and multiple Ovation Awards for works including Shakespeare’s Last Night Out and Skullduggery: The Musical Prequel to Hamlet, brings his signature blend of humor and emotional bite to the production. Critics have praised the play for its ability to fuse wit with pointed social commentary, noting its evolution from a domestic drama into a darker, more explosive narrative.
“The show relies on a series of revelations that build surprise, wonder and even horror,” Fisher said. “At its heart, it’s about the growing divide between the haves and the have-nots — but told in an intensely personal way, where these characters are forced to bare their souls through comedy, confrontation and memory.”
The cast features Richardson Cisneros-Jones as Carson, Rebecca Larsen as Danielle, Leigh Wulff as Elise and Schoen Hodges as Bobby. The production team includes producers Mia Criss, Alli Miller and Mark Giberson, with Jason Goodman serving as assistant director and co-producer.
Since its Hollywood Fringe run, The Amazing Sex Life of Rabbits has earned strong word-of-mouth for its bold storytelling and fearless approach to themes of desire, rivalry and social inequity. Audience members and critics alike have praised the play as provocative, funny and unflinchingly honest.
Performances begin March 2 at SoHo Playhouse, where the production continues through March 28 as part of the International Fringe Encore Series spotlighting standout new works from festivals around the world.
