London-based slowcore/post-rock quartet deathcrash will celebrate the release of their new album, Somersaults, with a show at Night Club 101 (101 Avenue A, New York, NY 10009) on Feb. 26, a day before the record’s official release.
Somersaults, due Feb. 27 via untitled (recs), follows the band’s critically acclaimed 2020 debut Return and sophomore album Less. Lead single “Triumph” is a shimmering, melancholic ballad reflecting on lost love and personal growth. The title track, also released ahead of the album, blends nostalgic, chime-heavy guitars with euphoric refrains that the band describes as emblematic of the record’s themes of maturity and self-reflection.
The band, comprised of Noah Bennett (drums), Patrick Fitzgerald (bass), Matthew Weinberger (guitar) and Tiernan Banks (vocals/guitar), recorded Somersaults at Black Box Studio in France’s Loire Valley. The sessions emphasized enjoyment, collaboration and a new sense of openness, according to the band.
Deathcrash has built a reputation for immersive and unconventional live performances, taking their shows to cinemas, garages, skateparks, nightclubs and other nontraditional venues. They have toured with Codeine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Country, New Road and Have A Nice Life.
The North American date at Night Club 101 precedes a series of U.K. tour dates in April supporting Somersaults.
