Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre to host women’s health event with Dr. Gillian Goddard

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre will mark International Women’s Day with Becoming a Savvy Patient with Dr. Gillian Goddard, an evening focused on women’s health, self-advocacy, and restoration, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Amanda Selwyn Dance Studio in Lower Manhattan.

The free event, with an optional $30 donation, will take place at 412 Broadway, second floor. Reservations are required.

The program will feature Gillian Goddard, MD, an internist and founder of The Savvy Patient, in a 45-minute fireside chat and discussion addressing hormones, midlife health, and strategies for navigating the medical system as a woman. The conversation will be followed by 45 minutes of restorative yoga led by Amanda Selwyn, artistic director of Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, designed to integrate the evening’s themes through rest and mindful movement.

Goddard will also discuss her forthcoming book, The Hormone Loop, which explores how hormones influence health and offers guidance on working with the body rather than against it. In support of the host organization, Goddard will donate $1 to Notes in Motion/Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre for every book pre-order generated through the event, as well as 10% of every newsletter subscription to The Savvy Patient.

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre creates contemporary dance theatre works that emphasize emotional expression through athletic and articulate movement, engaging audiences on both physical and reflective levels.

Its education arm, Notes in Motion, is a New York City Department of Education vendor that provides inclusive in-school, after-school, and community-based dance programs across the city. The organization offers instruction in a wide range of styles, including ballet, modern, jazz, African, Latin, hip-hop, tap, and musical theater, combining technical training with creative exploration through its Movement Exchange Method.

Over the past three years, Notes in Motion has expanded from 87 programs with 45 school partners to 163 programs serving 75 schools annually. This year, the organization reached approximately 21,000 students through 4,400 program sessions, with a focus on increasing access to arts education in underserved communities.

Amanda Selwyn founded Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion in 2000. Over 26 seasons, she has directed more than 130 productions and developed extensive dance education and performance initiatives. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Jacob’s Pillow, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, and the American Dance Guild Festival, and she has received support from numerous public and private foundations.

Becoming a Savvy Patient with Dr. Gillian Goddard is open to the public and intended to foster conversation, education, and community around women’s health and well-being.
