Alternative rock mainstays The Afghan Whigs will mark 40 years of music with a headline show at Webster Hall (125 E 11th St, New York, NY 10003) on April 30, part of a 20-date North American anniversary tour with Mercury Rev supporting all dates.
Formed in Cincinnati in 1986, The Afghan Whigs became known for blending rock with soul, R&B, and pop influences, setting themselves apart during the grunge-dominated ’90s with their sharp suits and emotionally charged performances. The band split in 2001 but reunited in 2012, selling out venues and performing at festivals worldwide. Since then, they have released three critically acclaimed albums: Do to the Beast (2014), In Spades (2017) and How Do You Burn? (2022).
The April 30 Webster Hall show will highlight the band’s storied career while offering fans a first glimpse of material from a new album planned for release later in 2026. Last December, The Afghan Whigs released two cover singles, “Fake Like” and “Downtown,” both showcasing frontman Greg Dulli’s distinctive vocals and dramatic style.
“Forty years later, I still get to do the thing I love the most,” Dulli said. “Writing songs and performing them with my friends all over the world. I truly have to pinch myself.”
Tickets for the Webster Hall performance go on sale Friday, Jan. 23, and more information on the tour schedule is available at https://linktr.ee/theafghanwhigs.
Mercury Rev, formed in Buffalo, New York, will join The Afghan Whigs on stage throughout the tour. The band, known for its evolving psychedelic sound, is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of its album All Is Dream with a global tour and a special double-vinyl reissue.
