Classic Stage Company has announced a one-week extension for the world premiere of Marcel on the Train, co-written by Marshall Pailet and Tony Award nominee Ethan Slater, with performances now running through March 22.
Previews begin Feb. 5 at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater, 136 E. 13th St., with opening night set for Feb. 22. The limited engagement was extended due to popular demand, the company said.
Directed by Pailet, Marcel on the Train explores the early life of legendary mime Marcel Marceau before he became an international icon. Set in Nazi-occupied France during World War II, the play follows a young Marceau as he helps guide Jewish children to safety, using courage and imagination in the face of danger.
Slater, known for his Tony-nominated performance in SpongeBob SquarePants and his role in Wicked, co-wrote the play and stars in the title role. The cast also includes Rora Brodwin, Harrison Bryan, Maddie Corman, Tedra Millan, Max Gordon Moore, Josh Odsess-Rubin, Aaron Serotsky, and Alex Wyse.
The creative team features set design by Scott Davis, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Studio Luna, sound design by Jill BC DuBoff, and casting by Geoff Josselson. The production is presented by special arrangement with Mix and Match Productions.
Slater will not appear in performances on Feb. 24, Feb. 25, and March 1. The role of Marcel will be performed by understudy Harrison Bryan on those dates.
Tickets are available at ClassicStage.org.
The production is part of CSC’s 2025-26 season, which concludes in May with the New York premiere of Thornton Wilder’s final play, The Emporium, adapted and completed by Kirk Lynn and directed by Rob Melrose. The company will also continue its Rediscovery Readings series, celebrating the art of suspense, with upcoming presentations of RUR on March 2 and Rope on March 9.
