South Street Seaport Museum offers Chisel Tip Calligraphy Workshop on March 15

The South Street Seaport Museum will host a Chisel Tip Calligraphy Workshop on Sunday, March 15, offering two sessions at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at 207 Water St., Manhattan. Tickets are $5, and the event is free for museum members.

Led by professional designers from Bowne & Co., the 90-minute workshops will teach participants the fundamentals of Roman capitals (majuscule) and lowercase (minuscule) letters using chisel tip calligraphy pens. Attendees will explore historical calligraphy techniques, learn about typographic anatomy—including shoulders, strokes, crossbars, ascenders, and descenders—and create their own letterforms.

All supplies are included, and participants take home both their creations and calligraphy pens. Space is limited, and advanced registration is recommended.

Organizers say the workshop provides a hands-on opportunity to engage with the rich history and artistry of calligraphy under the guidance of experienced professionals.
