Audible Theater and the theatrical partnership TOGETHER have expanded their 2026 season with two additional productions to be presented in repertory at Manhattan’s Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane, New York, NY 10012).
The new productions — What Happened Was and New Born — join the previously announced return engagement of Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes as part of the Off-Broadway season.
Directed by Ian Rickson, the productions will run in repertory at the Greenwich Village theater and will also be recorded for global release as Audible Originals.
“What Happened Was,” written by Obie Award-winning playwright Tom Noonan, will star Corey Stoll and Cecily Strong. Performances begin April 14 and continue through June 14. The intimate two-character play follows two co-workers who meet for a first date in a Manhattan apartment, where small talk gradually unravels into a revealing exploration of loneliness, attraction, and connection.
The revival marks the first major staging of Noonan’s play since his recent passing. Noonan also adapted the work into a 1994 film that won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Beginning May 8, the theater will present “New Born,” written by Ella Hickson. The production features three interconnected monologues performed by Marianna Gailus, Hugh Jackman, and Sepideh Moafi. The play runs through June 8 and explores themes of identity, relationships, and personal transformation through characters whose lives ripple across time and place.
The season also includes the return engagement of “Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes,” written by Hannah Moscovitch and starring Jackman and Ella Beatty. The critically acclaimed drama begins performances on March 17 and runs through April 30 for a limited engagement.
Producers said the partnership aims to make live theater more accessible. For each performance, 25% of seats will be available as $35 day-of-show tickets through TodayTix or at the Minetta Lane Theatre box office.
The productions are part of Audible Theater’s continuing efforts to pair live performances with audio releases, allowing audiences worldwide to experience the plays after their stage runs conclude. Tickets for the 2026 season are on sale now.
