Emerging Artists Theatre will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its biannual Spark Theatre Festival NYC from April 6–26 at 28th Street Theatre (TADA). The three-week festival will feature more than 66 new works, including musicals, plays, dance, solo performances, and storytelling. Tickets range from $20 to $40.
The Spring festival will include performances by luminaries such as Joyce Bulifant, Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber, and Emmy winner Dorothy Lyman. Audiences can expect short and full-length plays like The Jesus Hickey, My Windows, Titanic, Jesus, and Coca-Cola, and Oscar’s Razor, as well as musicals including The Scarlet Letter Musical and If I Could Go.
Thirty new dance works will be presented, such as Carmilla, Canzoni per Papa, and Human – Layers of Identity, alongside solo performances including A Gay Masseur’s Guide to Happy Endings, Back Float: A Very Hard of Hearing, Deaf-ish, Bluegrass-Forward Solo Show, and Miss Magnolia Beaumont Goes to Provincetown. Two productions spotlighting insects, Sniff My Undies and Buzzkill, will also be part of the lineup.
Founded in 1993 and led by Artistic Director Paul Adams, Emerging Artists Theatre launched the Spark Theatre Festival in 2006. Since then, festival work has moved on to Off-Broadway, the Edinburgh Fringe, NYMF, FringeNYC, and Encores! productions both nationally and internationally.
Most shows are one-time performances, with talkbacks following select presentations. Weekend performances include multiple shows, offering audiences full evenings of new work.
