Master ballet teacher Diana Byer has launched Teaching Cecchetti, a new online platform designed to educate dancers on the Cecchetti method, a classical ballet technique rooted in the teachings of Enrico Cecchetti and passed down through Byer’s mentor, Margaret Craske.
The program, delivered through social media channels, highlights forgotten steps, fundamental exercises, and teaching methods for dancers and educators. Since October 2025, Teaching Cecchetti has garnered 2.7 million views with support from former pupil Alex Angrist.
“Teaching Cecchetti goes beyond preserving the method; we aim to make it relevant and valuable for today’s dancers, educators, and artists,” Byer said. The platform emphasizes individualized instruction, safe training practices, and integrating artistry into daily classroom work.
Byer, a pupil of Craske for 20 years, is a direct link to the Cecchetti lineage. She founded the New York Theatre Ballet and the NYTB LIFT program, providing inclusive training and performance opportunities for underserved children. Her students have gone on to perform with major ballet companies, on Broadway, and in film.
In addition to the social media platform, Byer’s classes are available online through Dancio and The Diana Byer Legacy Project, produced in collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow.
Through the initiative, dancers of all levels can access the Cecchetti tradition, balancing structure with expression and cultivating technical skill, musicality, and artistry. Followers can find content at @teachingcecchetti on Instagram and Facebook.
