La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club will present The Censorship of Dreams, a new drama by Nora Sørena Casey, directed by Arthur Makaryan, for 12 performances from May 1-17 at the Ellen Stewart Theatre in Manhattan.
The production imagines a near-future world after a mysterious event called the Restart leaves people without memories, living with strangers they are told are their families. The story follows a couple navigating a society where dreams have become dangerous currency and language is increasingly weaponized, challenging both love and trust.
The cast includes Jes Dugger, Chris Jaymes, Kat Warnusz-Steckel, and Bryce Michael Wood. Performances are scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m., with a special performance on Monday, May 4, at 7 p.m., which also marks opening night. The show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
Director Arthur Makaryan described the play as “a mirror tilted just a few degrees into our near future, asking whether our thirst for optimization and security is quietly rewriting what love, consent, and responsibility look like.”
