Atlantic Avenue to transform into 1.5-mile art gallery this May

Atlantic avenue art walk in may 2026 in Brooklyn New York

More than 125 local artists will take over Atlantic Avenue next month for the annual Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk, turning 70 small businesses into a massive, self-guided walking gallery.

The free event, scheduled for May 9 through May 17, spans 1.5 miles from Fourth Avenue to the Brooklyn waterfront. Artwork ranging from photography and sculpture to paintings and mixed media will be displayed inside neighborhood boutiques, restaurants, salons, and home decor shops.

“ArtWalk invites visitors to explore, shop local, and experience firsthand the creativity and character that make Brooklyn so special,” said Howard Kolins, executive director of the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corp.

The festival includes several specialized tours and exhibitions:

  • Curator’s Tours: Alicia Degener, ArtWalk co-curator and president of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, will lead walking tours on Saturday, May 9, and May 16.
  • Augmented Reality Experience: On May 17, “Why Not Art” will present Crashscape by Michael J. Freedman, an AR walking tour that uses artistically rendered digital towers to depict local traffic collisions.
  • ArtShare for HeartShare: Clover’s Gallery will host its 16th annual exhibition featuring work by children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a reception on May 13.

Organizers noted that live art activations and children’s programming are also scheduled for Saturday, May 16.

Visitors can access the ArtWalk via multiple subway lines at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Hoyt-Schermerhorn stations, or via the South Brooklyn ferry route to Pier 6. Official maps will be available starting one week before the event at local hubs including Sahadi’s and Absolute Coffee.
