The long-running Broadway hit Chicago welcomed Rachel Schur back to the role of Roxie Hart and introduced Nik Walker as Billy Flynn, starting Monday, May 4.
The duo joined the production at the Ambassador Theatre, where the Tony Award-winning revival continues its run as Broadway’s longest-running musical currently playing.
Schur previously appeared in the Broadway production as Annie and has other credits including Jersey Boys on Broadway and the national tour of A Chorus Line. “What a dream come true!” Schur said regarding her return to the role of Roxie Hart.
Walker, a Boston native who makes his debut in the “cell block” as the slick criminal lawyer Billy Flynn, has previously appeared on the New York stage as Aaron Burr in Hamilton and Sir Galahad in Spamalot. Walker also co-created the cartoon CLEANERS, which is currently in development at Warner Bros. Animation and Amazon Studios.
The current cast also includes Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton, Greg Hildreth as Amos Hart, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Set in the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a dancer who murders her lover and hires a top lawyer to turn her crime into a media sensation. The musical features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, the production won six 1997 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival. It is directed by Walter Bobbie with choreography by Ann Reinking.
