Unlimited Stages will present the world premiere of “Go Down, Moses,” a new play by Dana Leslie Goldstein, running May 13 through May 31, 2026, at the A.R.T./New York Theatres.
Directed by Brandon M. Weber, the production celebrates its opening night on Sunday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre.
Inspired by a true story, the play is set on a college campus in 1985. The narrative follows ethics professor Philip Hoffman and Dean of Students Albert Becker, two veterans of the Civil Rights Movement navigating modern activism. The plot centers on the tensions that erupt when a student invites a controversial speaker to campus, sparking debates over free speech and systemic inequity.
“Go Down, Moses grabbed us immediately—it’s bold, urgent, and impossible to ignore,” said Eric Berkley, founder of Unlimited Stages. “Dana Leslie Goldstein has written a play that fearlessly tackles the questions institutions are still grappling with today.”
The cast features Terence Archie and Philip Hoffman, alongside Shania Adams, Lucas Bernhauer, Kaa’lah Bynes, Maddy Mackarey, Yarin Neuhaus, Jeremiah Packer, Vanessa Pliskow, Donovan Price, Patrick Saint Ange, Celina Mylene Santana and Renee Shohet.
The creative team includes scenic designer Diamond Robinson, costume designer CK Zaki, lighting designer Zayn Noel, and projection designer Steve Lucin, with original music by John Bronston. The play is produced by Judith Manocherian.
“Go Down, Moses” was a winner of the 2025 Waterworks New Play Festival and received a nomination for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. Goldstein, an award-winning playwright, spent eight years developing the piece through nearly 20 workshops and readings.
The production marks the first full-scale theatrical production for Unlimited Stages, a nonprofit organization founded in 2018.
Performances are scheduled Wednesday through Friday at 7 p.m., with 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. shows on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $44.52, including fees, and are available at UnlimitedStages.com.
