Producer R.K. Greene and The StoryLine Project have announced the cast for an upcoming presentation of the new musical Unzipped. The production is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Theater 555, located at 555 W. 42nd Street in Manhattan. The free performance is part of the Theater Resources Unlimited Voices New Musicals Series.
The showcase features a cast of Broadway veterans, with Jenn Gambatese starring as Katie, Bryan Fenkart as Daniel, and Patrick Oliver Jones as Dr. Gerald Dexter. The nine-member ensemble also includes Michael Notardonato, Neal Mayer, Diane Phelan, and Cicily Daniels, alongside newcomers Edgar Diaz-Gutierrez and Lexi Nieto.
Set in San Francisco during the mid-1970s, the storyline follows psychologist Katie Langley as she navigates being unemployed and experiencing a lack of intimacy in her marriage. When she accepts a position as a sex therapist at a men’s clinic, she hides the truth from her husband by claiming she works at an all-boys Catholic school. The narrative explores how multiple characters harbor their own secrets.
The musical features an original story by author and sex therapist Eva Margolies, who co-wrote the book, music, and lyrics with Douglas J. Cohen. Margolies previously wrote seven books on relationships and won the Song Door International Songwriting Competition for the song “Butterfly,” which serves as the finale for the musical. Cohen is a past recipient of the Richard Rodgers Award, a Jonathan Larson Grant, and the Fred Ebb Award.
Debra Whitfield is directing the presentation. Her previous Off-Broadway directing credits include Tech Support, Olympics Über Alles, and The Banana Monologues. Whitfield also serves as the artistic director of the Chatillion Stage Company.
Following the performance, Theater Resources Unlimited will host its Dollars and Sense industry talkback to discuss the developmental path of the production. The panel will feature producer and creative investor Janel C. Scarborough, who co-founded TRU Diversity. Additional panelists for the discussion will be announced at a later date.
The TRU Voices New Musicals Series receives financial backing from Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley. Theater Resources Unlimited is a 33-year-old nonprofit organization that provides networking, mentorship programs, and educational workshops for theater professionals, producers, and emerging companies. Additional organizational support is provided by the Leibowitz Greenway Foundation, Merrie L. Davis, Dunbar Hofmann Productions, and the New York State Council on the Arts.
