Lissa deGuzman will join the Broadway cast of Chicago in the role of Velma Kelly starting Monday, August 31. The long-running production continues its run at the Ambassador Theatre on West 49th Street in Manhattan.
deGuzman previously appeared on Broadway as Elphaba in Wicked and Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, after touring with both productions. Her Broadway debut came as the alternate for Ann Darow in King Kong, alongside regional roles at venues including The Muny and Drury Lane Theatre.
The current Broadway company includes Krysta Rodriguez as Roxie Hart, Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton, Eddie Cooper as Amos Hart, and J. Workman as Mary Sunshine. Mark Ballas is currently starring as Billy Flynn through Sunday, August 16.
Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, Chicago features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The production won six 1997 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
“She is thrilled to join the company of Chicago as Velma Kelly,” the production team noted regarding deGuzman’s upcoming arrival.
Tickets for the show are available in person at the Ambassador Theatre box office and online through the official show website. Performances run Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
