The South Street Seaport Museum will host a Chantey Sing and Sail program aboard the 1885 schooner Pioneer on Saturday, August 22. The two-hour event departs at 1:00 p.m. from Pier 16 in Manhattan.

Passengers on the sail will participate in a round-robin sing-along featuring traditional maritime work songs and ballads. The musical program highlights historical sea chanteys originally used by sailors during shipboard labor.

Check-in for the event begins at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 12:45 p.m. prior to boarding. The vessel departs at 1:00 p.m. and returns to Pier 16 at 3:00 p.m.

Public ticket prices for the sail range from $20 to $70, with South Street Seaport Museum members receiving a 20 percent discount at checkout. All sailing tickets include admission to the museum’s historic fleet and galleries on the day of the event.

Built in Pennsylvania in 1885, the Pioneer was originally constructed with a wrought iron hull to transport sand and heavy cargo along the Delaware River. It remains the only iron-hulled American merchant sailing vessel still in operation.

Sailing ticket holders gain access to the 1885 tall ship Wavertree, the 1908 lightship Ambrose, and exhibitions at 12 Fulton Street and 213 Water Street. General admission spaces are open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
