Abingdon Theatre Company has announced the directors and cast for “Raise the Page, Uplift the Word: A BIPOC Festival of Short Plays,” set for March 9-10 at AMT Theater (354 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036.).
The festival, presented in collaboration with AMT Theater, will take place at 7 p.m. each evening at the venue, 354 W. 45th St. It is sponsored by Owen Charles, Marcus Felder, Yasmeen Mock, and Jonathan D’Agostino.
Directors for the staged readings are Mayah Lourdes Burke, Amiah McGinty, and Reynaldo Piniella. The company of actors includes Hannah Brudnock, TJ Chester, Broderick Clavery, Jevon Donaldson, Dave Droxler, Bryce Foley, Alinca Hamilton, Deepti Menon, Marc Alexander Pierre, Caroline Portante, Travis Raeburn, and Garrett Turner.
The March 9 program will feature “Our Lady of Luck” by Joel Castillo, “When LA Burns” by Rena Patel, and “The Soledad Brothers” by Tara Blau Smollen. The March 10 lineup includes “Tongue in Cheek” by Lucy Wang, “Stump Worthy” by Steven A. Butler Jr., and “Unfuck Yourself” by Amy Chen.
The festival spotlights short plays written by BIPOC playwrights and aims to create opportunities for underrepresented voices in theater. Admission is free, and reservations are required through the company’s website.
Founded more than 30 years ago, Abingdon Theatre Company develops and produces new American work by emerging and established artists. Its Off-Broadway premieres and special events have included productions that went on to receive Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations, as well as virtual films recognized at international festivals.
