Composer Timo Andres to perform in Chelsea Music Festival premiere of America/Beautiful

The Chelsea Music Festival has announced a upcoming performance of pianist Min Kwon’s America/Beautiful project on Monday, June 22, 2026. The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s German Church, located at 315 West 22nd Street in New York City.

The performance features composer and pianist Timo Andres, a graduate of the Yale School of Music who grew up in rural Connecticut. Andres, a Grammy nominee and recipient of the 2025 Stoeger Prize from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, will perform his piece “America Coda” during the event.

Kwon conceived the America/Beautiful project during the pandemic, commissioning variations on “America the Beautiful” from more than 70 composers across the country. The participating composers range in age from 21 to 96. Each piece offers a different perspective on the American experience to explore what America is, was, or will be.

The concert program includes a series of New York premieres by composers such as Samuel Adler, Stewart Copeland, Fred Hersch, Kenji Bunch, Libby Larsen, Nico Muhly, and Judith Lang Zaimont. Accompanying the musical variations will be photographs of American landscapes taken by South Korean immigrant photographer Park Joon, who documented the scenery while driving through every U.S. state more than 50 times.

Joining Kwon and Andres for the performance are violinist Claire Bourg and oboist Hsuan-Fong Chen, who earned her Master of Music and Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music. A reception hosted by the Flatiron District pastry boutique Lysée will follow the concert.

Tickets for the evening start at $65. The Chelsea Music Festival, which presents chamber music in non-traditional spaces like churches and galleries, is a partner of Steinway & Sons.
