Artist Don Hershman will present a new solo exhibition titled = OUT OF LINE = opening Thursday, October 1, 2026, at One Art Space in Tribeca. The show brings together select paintings from four of the artist’s recent series completed between 2023 and 2025.
Curated from The Art of Code Switching (2023), I Am a Barn (2024), Urban Abstraction (2025), and Still/Still (2025), the retrospective traces the evolution of linear structure across different subjects. The featured works use repeated and overlapping lines to explore color, rhythm, and atmosphere across barn surfaces, urban spaces, still life, and portraiture.
The visual language featured in the exhibit developed through architectural studies of rural barns before expanding into city imagery, everyday objects, and human figures. Works from the urban series focus on cropped fragments of pavement, garage doors, and graffiti, while his portrait series applies linear techniques to human figures.
Hershman is a San Francisco-based painter and podiatric surgeon who was raised and educated in Brooklyn and Queens. His artistic approach translates photographic sources into layered drawings and paintings, drawing early inspiration from museum visits through New York City public schools.
His paintings have previously been featured in national and international shows, including the de Young Open in San Francisco along with solo exhibitions in Provincetown, the Bay Area, and New York. High-resolution images for the Tribeca exhibition feature photography by Nick Guttierez, Yooniversal Media, and Luz Martina Ruiz.
