Gingold Theatrical Group has announced its 2026 season lineup, featuring staged readings of classic works by Oscar Wilde, Maurine Dallas Watkins, and George Bernard Shaw. The performances will take place on select Monday evenings at The Players in Manhattan.
The season opens April 20 with A Woman of No Importance, Wilde’s rarely staged comedy of manners exploring gender roles and social hypocrisy in Victorian England. Directed by Carl Andress, the reading will feature actor Charles Busch and include a post-show discussion.
The series continues May 18 with Chicago, Watkins’ 1926 satire inspired by real-life crime reporting. The play, directed by Marcia Milgrim Dodge, examines media sensationalism and justice, and later served as the basis for the long-running Broadway musical and film adaptations.
The season concludes June 22 with Shaw’s Getting Married, directed by Gingold Artistic Director David Staller. The comedy takes a critical look at marriage, relationships, and societal expectations through a series of intersecting personal dilemmas.
“We’re diving into 2026 headfirst with these three highly entertaining and provocative plays,” Staller said in a statement, noting the range of themes from Wilde’s social satire to Shaw’s examination of marriage.
Now in its 21st year, Gingold Theatrical Group produces theater and programs inspired by Shaw’s humanitarian ideals, emphasizing equity, freedom of thought, and the role of art in social progress.
All readings will be held at 16 Gramercy Park South with general seating available. Click here to purchase tickets.
