James ‘Biscuit’ Rouse to honor Buddy Miles at The Cutting Room NYC Sept. 5 with vinyl release and “Down By The River” video premiere

Philadelphia-born drummer, vocalist, and producer James “Biscuit” Rouse is honoring a legend. On Friday, September 5, he’ll host a dynamic Buddy Miles Birthday Celebration at The Cutting Room (44 E 32nd St, New York, NY 10016) which promises to be a night of music, memories, and monumental grooves.

This one-of-a-kind tribute concert will feature surprise special guests, a live interview moderated by media personality Billy Amendola, and will be hosted by Q104.3 FM’s Maria Milito. Tickets are on sale now–  $30 advance / $45 day of show.

Coinciding with the event, Rouse will release ‘Biscuit & Buddy’ on vinyl — a groundbreaking reinterpretation of Buddy Miles’s catalog through Biscuit’s distinct voice and vision. Originally released digitally in 2024 via German funk/jazz label Leopard Records, the album reimagines Buddy classics such as “Them Changes,” “Life is What You Make It,” and Neil Young’s “Down By The River”—the latter now accompanied by a brand-new music video out today.

“This tribute is personal,” says Biscuit. “Buddy Miles was the blueprint—not just for the kind of drummer I am, but the kind of musician and musical director I strive to be.”

In addition to honoring Buddy’s hits, Rouse contributes original compositions like “GI Gina”, “Enough is Enough”, and “Shine”, blending soul, funk, and rock in a genre-defying homage to his idol. The result is the first-ever full-length Buddy Miles tribute album, featuring an all-star cast of musicians: Vernon Reid, Doug Wimbish, Marcus Machado, Charisa “The Violin Diva” Rouse, V. Jeffrey Smith, Lez Lemon, Kenyatta Beasley, Gil-XI Defay, and many more. Produced by James C. Rouse, mixed by Andre Betts, and mastered for vinyl just in time for the celebration.

Rouse is no stranger to the spotlight. He’s toured and recorded with Lauryn Hill, Vivian Green, Syleena Johnson, Nile Rodgers, Screaming Headless Torsos, and currently drums for Gerald Veasley and Vernon Reid’s Band of Gypsys Revisited. He’s also part of Jerry Wonda and Arden Altino’s production team and has written for artists including Elijah Blake, Kenny Bobien, and George Burton.

There are 11 tracks on the album. “There’s no other tribute like this—and no better person to do it than someone who understands Buddy’s legacy in his bones,” says Rouse. “This isn’t just a show. It’s a celebration of a genius drummer, guitarist, singer, and producer whose music changed the game.”

Join us September 5 at The Cutting Room for a soul-shaking night of funk, fire, and unforgettable music.

“I’m beyond thrilled,” adds Biscuit. “This show isn’t just a performance—it’s a powerful tribute to an icon whose music and spirit continue to inspire. Get ready for an unforgettable night filled with energy, passion, and soul!”
