Electronic music provocateurs Lords of Acid will bring their “Cheeky Freaky” U.S. Tour to Racket (431 W 16th St, New York, NY 10011) on May 12, marking one of the most anticipated New York City stops on the band’s spring run and signaling a bold new chapter for the longtime pioneers of industrial dance and electro.
The performance is part of a 29-city national tour that launches April 25 and coincides with the release of the band’s first new album in eight years. Led by founder and creative force Praga Khan, the tour introduces fresh material while staying rooted in the provocative sound and high-energy spectacle that have defined Lords of Acid for decades.
“For the first time in eight years, there is truly new material,” Khan said in announcing the tour. “A new album is coming, and the ‘Cheeky Freaky Tour’ ushers in a new era for the band, with respect for the past, but with a clear focus on the future.”
At the helm of the current lineup is vocalist Carla Harvey, whose commanding presence as the band’s “Acid Queen” anchors a set that blends classic tracks such as “Pussy,” “I Sit on Acid,” and “Crablouse” with new songs making their live debut. The result is a show that balances nostalgia with reinvention, delivering the confrontational, seductive edge that has long set the group apart.
The New York date at Racket will feature a full multi-artist lineup designed to create an immersive, club-driven experience. Supporting acts include Princess Superstar, known for her sharp lyricism and dance-floor swagger; Tony and the Kiki, who bring fashion-forward alternative pop; gothic rock outfit Dead On A Sunday; and electronic opener MZ NEON. Several of the supporting artists also appear on the forthcoming album, offering fans an early glimpse of the band’s collaborative future.
Since emerging in the late 1980s, Lords of Acid have built a reputation for pushing boundaries both musically and visually, fusing pounding electronic beats with unapologetic theatrics. The “Cheeky Freaky Tour,” organizers say, is not a retrospective but a reaffirmation of that ethos — loud, fearless and rooted in the energy of live performance.
The May 12 show at Racket places New York at the center of that new era, giving longtime fans and newcomers alike a chance to experience the next phase of Lords of Acid in one of the city’s most vibrant live-music spaces.
