Works & Process and The Metropolitan Opera will present a preview of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s final opera, Innocence, on Monday, March 30, at 7 p.m. at the Peter B. Lewis Theater at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue. Tickets start at $25. Click here to purchase tickets.
The performance offers an advanced look at the opera, which explores the ripple effects of trauma following an unspeakable tragedy. The multilingual libretto, by Sofi Oksanen and Aleksi Barrière, accompanies Saariaho’s haunting score to create a darkly beautiful sound world.
Metropolitan Opera General Manager Peter Gelb will moderate a discussion with the creative team, including conductor Susanna Mälkki, director Simon Stone, and the librettists. Performers include soprano Jacquelyn Stucker, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, tenor Miles Mykkanen, and Finnish ethno-pop singer Vilma Jää, who will present highlights from the opera.
