The Tony Award®-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036), producers announced Thursday. The show will conclude a seven-year run with 2,265 regular performances, 24 previews, and become the 36th longest-running musical in Broadway history.
Producer Carmen Pavlovic of Global Creatures said the production’s run has been “the honor of a lifetime,” crediting Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, director Alex Timbers, and the creative team for their vision and artistry. “We look forward to six more months of celebrating the remarkable people who created this show and those who perform eight times a week,” Pavlovic said.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical opened on Broadway July 25, 2019, to critical acclaim and holds the record for the highest-grossing production in the Al Hirschfeld Theatre’s 100-year history. The show halted performances on March 12, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and resumed on September 24, 2021, as part of Broadway’s reopening.
Winner of ten 2021 Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, the production features a book by Tony Award® winner John Logan, choreography by Tony Award® winner Sonya Tayeh, and music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Tony Award® winner Justin Levine. It officially recouped its Broadway investment in late 2022, making it the only musical from the 2019-2020 season to do so and the only show from that season still running.
The show has performed for over 12 million audience members worldwide, with productions on Broadway, North American tours, London’s West End, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, and non-replica productions in Scandinavia and Italy. Its original Broadway cast recording debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Cast Album chart, and a behind-the-scenes book, Moulin Rouge! The Musical: The Story of the Broadway Spectacular is available from Rizzoli.
