The holidays have officially arrived at Moynihan Train Hall. With the launch of its 2025 holiday programming, the nation’s premier transit hub is positioning itself not only as a gateway to New York City, but as a must-visit destination for festive celebrations, shopping, dining, art, and entertainment under its iconic skylit concourse.
Welcoming millions of travelers, commuters, and city-goers throughout the season, Moynihan Train Hall blends history and modernity, transforming the landmark James A. Farley Building into a dynamic holiday showcase. The hall’s soaring architecture, seasonal light displays, and curated programming offer both an homage to New York’s Golden Age of rail travel and a contemporary experience designed to elevate every stop along the journey.
“Moynihan Train Hall shows what’s possible when we transform historic infrastructure into vibrant community spaces that drive economic activity and bring people together,” said Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight. “This holiday season, we are proud to offer music, dining, art, and shopping that celebrate the best of New York while enriching the lives of millions who pass through these halls every year.”
Rebecca Pellegrini, Executive Director of Moynihan Train Hall at Empire State Development, echoed the sentiment: “The holidays are a time for connection and celebration, and we are excited to share that joy with everyone, from daily travelers to first-time visitors.”
Holiday Performances Bring Music to the Main Concourse
Returning for another season, The Moynihan Music Series brings free live performances to the main concourse in partnership with Sing for Hope, featuring local and world-class musicians throughout December. Highlights include:
- Dec. 10, 4–6 p.m. — LaGuardia High School Show Choir performing holiday classics and celebratory favorites.
- Dec. 17, 4–6 p.m. — Sing for Hope HandaHarmony Youth Chorus sharing global holiday music as a testament to unity and cultural exchange.
- Dec. 28, 3:30–4:45 p.m. — Sing Harlem from the Mama Foundation for the Arts delivering a high-energy, soulful seasonal finale.
Throughout the month, 34th Street Partnership will also present pop-up performances by The Broadway Carolers outdoors on the 8th Avenue plazas and Farley Post Office steps, offering spontaneous festive moments for passersby.
A Holiday Backdrop Fit for the Big Screen
From the illuminated Beaux-Arts façade to the color-washed steel trusses and skylights of the concourse, Moynihan Train Hall’s architectural design becomes a landmark of holiday magic each winter. The building’s cinematic legacy — notably featured in the classic 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street — adds to its seasonal allure. Visitors can also enjoy the beautifully restored 8th Avenue lobby, an elegant setting for mailing holiday cards or letters to Santa.
Dining and Gifting Under One Roof
Moynihan Train Hall’s holiday experience continues with its acclaimed food and retail destinations:
- Moynihan Food Hall features celebrated New York names including Magnolia Bakery, La Maison du Chocolat, La Esquina, Maman, Vesuvio Bakery, and more. Holiday cocktails are available at The Irish Exit’s seasonal pop-up, “Polar Express.”
- Runway32, located above the food hall, offers convenient seasonal shopping with retailers such as Moleskine, Malin & Goetz, and Rains.
- A new rag & bone Miramar concept store on the main concourse level presents exclusive pieces available only at Moynihan Train Hall.
The Train Hall recently expanded its dining footprint with the arrival of Avra Estiatorio on 33rd Street and 9th Avenue, bringing refined Greek cuisine to Midtown West.
Public Art Enlivening the Holiday Journey
The Moynihan Train Hall Public Art Program continues to impress with monumental works from artists including Elmgreen & Dragset and Stan Douglas, enhanced by nearly 2,500 square feet of LED display screens showcasing dynamic multimedia visuals.
The Heart of Midtown West Holiday Discovery
Situated between Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, the Garment District, Times Square, and the New West Side, Moynihan Train Hall offers seamless connection to New York’s most vibrant winter destinations. Travelers can also access the nearby High Line Moynihan Connector, linking the historic train hall directly to the elevated park.
“The best way to begin and end a holiday experience in New York City is at Moynihan Train Hall,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President Eliot Hamlisch. “Traveling on Amtrak removes the stress of driving and flying, placing guests in the heart of Midtown and setting the stage for a winter wonderland adventure.”
More than a transportation terminal, Moynihan Train Hall has become a seasonal tradition of its own — a place where travel, culture, and celebration converge.
