The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will perform a free interactive Lunar New Year program at the Carmine Carro Community Center (3000 Fillmore Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234) in Brooklyn on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 12 p.m.
Titled 2026 Year of the Horse, the program offers an engaging experience for young audiences and families, combining music, storytelling, and movement to highlight Chinese cultural traditions. The performance features dazzling costumes, eye-catching props, and an opportunity for audience members to participate on stage, learning basic movements such as the flowing silk ribbon dance.
For the 2026 celebration, the company is introducing a new lion dance segment and a dynamic Mongolian-inspired dance, celebrating the strength, freedom, and resilience associated with the horse. The performance is narrated by the dancers, who explain how geography, history, and community celebrations influence classical and folk dance forms.
Founded by Chinese American choreographer Nai-Ni Chen, the internationally touring company is now led by Artistic Director Greta Campo and Executive Director Andy Chiang. The program is presented in collaboration with the Marine Park Association and the Brooklyn Public Library.
The event is free and open to the public.
