The New York Botanical Garden is hosting a Día de los Muertos celebration from Oct. 3 through Nov. 2, 2026. Set across the garden’s grounds in the Bronx, the month-long event highlights Mexican autumn traditions through floral displays, artwork, music, and hands-on programs.
A central feature of the experience is a multi-tiered community ofrenda where visitors can leave personal items and notes of remembrance. Bronx artist Blanka Amezkua curated the top three tiers of the altar, while the lower tiers are open for public contributions.
Pathways throughout the garden are decorated with marigolds, dahlias, suspended papel picado banners, calaveras, and large cut-out alebrijes designed by Mexican artist Saner. Weekend programming includes mariachi music, folk dance, and workshops, leading up to a Día de los Muertos Parade on Nov. 1 featuring giant puppets, dancers, and live performances.
Event admission, schedules, and advance ticket purchases are available online through the New York Botanical Garden website. Visitors can access the displays and weekend activities with standard garden pass options during regular operating hours.
Founded in 1891, the New York Botanical Garden encompasses 250 acres in the Bronx. The institution serves as a center for botanical research, plant conservation, horticultural display, and community educational programs.
