The New York Festival of Song (NYFOS) will celebrate the holidays with its 16th annual production of A Goyishe Christmas to You! on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 9 p.m. at Merkin Hall, 129 West 67th Street.
The program features Yuletide songs by Jewish composers, performed with humor and heart, including classics like White Christmas and Winter Wonderland, as well as Yiddish versions of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Selections also include Candle in My Window, Can I Interest You in Hanukkah?, and The Christmas Song with new lyrics by Adam Gopnik.
Singers Lauren Worsham (soprano), Donna Breitzer and Rebecca Jo Loeb (mezzo-sopranos), Alex Mansoori (tenor), Joshua Jeremiah (baritone), and Cantor Joshua Breitzer will perform under the direction of NYFOS Artistic Director Steven Blier, who will also play piano and host. Clarinetist Alan R. Kay joins the ensemble.
“Now in its 16th year, our Jewish tribute to the Yuletide season has been an amazingly sturdy program,” Blier said. “It remains a comic gem as well as a touching, gently cathartic holiday tradition. It has only grown richer and more meaningful over the years.”
