The Oracular Theatre and The Directors Company have announced the cast and creative team for the Off-Broadway premiere of Becoming Hamlet. The limited engagement begins performances September 5, 2026, and runs through October 3 at the Five Angels Theater, located at 789 10th Avenue in Manhattan. Opening night is set for September 10.
Adapted by Damon Horowitz and directed by Sybille Bruun, the production reimagines Shakespeare’s play as an interactive, first-person experience. Audience members assume the role of Hamlet, speaking lines and directly interacting with a professional ensemble to experience the character’s journey from the inside.
Unlike typical immersive theatre, participants do not wear masks or assume fictional personas, but instead remain authentically themselves while shaping the story. Designated non-participatory seating is also available for those who prefer to observe the show without speaking lines or joining the performance.
The cast features the audience as Hamlet alongside a professional ensemble, including David H. Littleton as Claudius, Désirée Baxter as Gertrude, Jim Pratzon as Polonius, Steven Lamont as Laertes, Judith Feingold as Ophelia, Tyler Moss as Horatio, Truman Gaudoin as Guildencrantz, Equiano Mosieri as Ghost and Gravedigger, and Damon Horowitz as the Hamlet Guide.
The creative team includes costume designer Amit Gajwani, scenic designer Yijun Yang, lighting designer Maryam Sweirki, composer Marlon Feld, sound consultant DJ Potts, stage manager Rose Riccardi, and production consultant Drew Francis. Executive producers for the run are Leah M. Michalos and Victoria Cairl.
