Works & Process will host a first look at the Philadelphia Ballet’s upcoming production of “Romeo and Juliet” on April 19 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (1071 5th Ave, New York, NY 10128).
The 7 p.m. program at the Peter B. Lewis Theater features excerpts from a new interpretation by Juliano Nunes, the company’s resident choreographer. Set to the traditional score by Sergei Prokofiev, the production offers a contemporary vision of the Shakespearean tragedy.
Nunes is scheduled to participate in a moderated discussion during the event to explore the creative process behind the new staging. The preview comes ahead of the production’s full premiere later this month.
“Romeo and Juliet follows the story of two young lovers from feuding families whose intense passion leads to their untimely tragic end,” the organization said in a statement.
Philadelphia Ballet, formerly the Pennsylvania Ballet, has expanded its repertoire under Nunes’ residency to include works that blend classical foundations with modern athletic movement.
