The team behind beloved cocktail bars Monkey Thief and Sama Street is back with a new concept: Same Same, a cozy, wine-forward bar in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen. Located at 401 W 47th Street, the 60-seat space reimagines the former Monkey Thief location with lush greenery, copper accents, and a signature brown paper wine menu displayed along the bar.
Founded by longtime partners Avi Singh, Rishi Rajpal, and David Muhs, Same Same marks the trio’s first venture into wine-focused hospitality. Wine Director Olivia Moran, formerly GM of Lysée and Nura in Greenpoint, leads a rotating selection of six wines by the glass, featuring small, independent producers from Central and Eastern Europe. Opening offerings include sparkling Somloi Vandor ‘Feher Nyerspezsgo’ from Hungary, textured orange wines from Alsace, bright whites from Germany, and savory reds from Portugal and Chile.
The bar also offers inventive low-ABV cocktails led by partner David Muhs, such as the force-carbonated Grapefruit Highball, Peter Piper Martini, and a sherry cobbler with white miso and spiced green apple juice. A rotating “Cool Sh*t We’re Into Right Now” section features experimental beverages, including herbal aperitifs and carbonated non-alcoholic creations like Pop Culture and St. Agrestis’ Phony Negroni.
Chef David Sullivan, formerly of Ai Fiori and Manhatta, curated a shareable food menu designed to pair with the wine and cocktail program. Small plates include Oysters with mezcal granita, Scallop Carpaccio with salsa macha, Beef Tartare, and Shrimp Toast with yuzu kosho. Heartier dishes feature housemade Cavatelli with shrimp, Squid Noodles with prosciutto XO sauce, Korean fried chicken, and Pork Belly with quince, black garlic, and coffee. Desserts include a Chelsea Tart with salted caramel and a Basque Cheesecake with blackberries and red wine.
The design maintains the Monkey Thief vibe with natural and urban touches: patterned tile floors, hanging plants, copper light fixtures, and floating paper lanterns. The space is intimate yet lively, ideal for a relaxed night of wine, cocktails, and elevated small plates.
Same Same is open:
- Tuesday–Thursday: 5 p.m.–12 a.m.
- Friday–Saturday: 3 p.m.–2 a.m.
- Sunday: 3 p.m.–12 a.m.
Reservations are available on Resy, and fans can follow updates on Instagram at @samesamewinebar.
With its curated wines, inventive cocktails, and chef-driven menu, Same Same offers Hell’s Kitchen a new go-to spot for wine lovers and adventurous diners alike.
