The 92nd Street Y will host Brazilian guitar duo Sérgio Assad and Odair Assad for the final performance of their farewell tour on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. on the David Geffen Stage at Kaufmann Concert Hall, 1395 Lexington Ave., Manhattan. The concert marks the closing of a career that spans more than four decades. The Assads first appeared at the 92NY in January 1980, launching an international career that began with a prize at the 1979 Young Artists Competition in Bratislava. Since then, the brothers have collaborated with artists including Yo-Yo Ma and Gidon Kremer, while composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Terry Riley created works specifically for them.

The program for the final concert features Brazilian and Latin American compositions by Piazzolla, Egberto Gismonti, Villa-Lobos, Radamés Gnattali, Paulo Bellinati, and Sérgio Assad himself. Highlights include Piazzolla’s Suite Troileana, Gnattali’s Suite Retratos, and Sérgio Assad’s One Week in Rio and Dyens en trois temps.

Born in Brazil, the Assad brothers studied under Monina Távora, a disciple of Andrés Segovia, and have influenced generations of guitarists with their virtuosity and ensemble work. Sérgio Assad has composed extensively for the duo and for other artists, including a cello concerto for Yo-Yo Ma. Odair Assad teaches at the École Supérieure des Arts in Brussels, while Sérgio is based in Chicago.

The Assads have recorded multiple albums, including Sérgio and Odair Assad Play Piazzolla and Jardim Abandonado, both of which won Latin Grammys, and collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma on Obrigado Brazil and Songs of Joy & Peace, earning Grammy Awards.

This performance concludes the Assad brothers’ North American farewell tour, which celebrates their 60th anniversary as a performing duo. Audiences can expect an evening showcasing the full breadth of their artistry, spanning classical, folk, jazz, and Latin musical traditions.
