The South Street Seaport Museum will host a free series of short documentary screenings on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. The event takes place aboard the 1885 tall ship Wavertree as part of Climate Week NYC, an annual citywide initiative organized by the Climate Group alongside the United Nations and the City of New York.
Presented in partnership with the Climate Film Festival and Waterfront Alliance, the program features three short films focused on environmental changes and community conservation efforts. Following the film presentations, a panel discussion and audience Q&A with the filmmakers will focus on climate solutions and waterfront resilience.
The featured lineup includes Between Moon Tides, which documents citizen scientists working to protect the Saltmarsh Sparrow in coastal New England. A second film, Refuge Keepers, follows community members in Celestún, Mexico, establishing a marine refuge. The third selection, Holdfast Together: Keepers of California’s Kelp, explores efforts by divers and scientists to restore collapsed kelp forests along the Northern California coastline.
The venue for the event, the 1885 cargo ship Wavertree, is an iron-hulled, three-masted full-rigged vessel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ship serves as a centerpiece for the museum’s historic fleet along the South Street waterfront.
Preregistration for the evening program is encouraged, with walkup guests accommodated based on available space. The screening event is part of broader educational programming organized by the Climate Film Festival and Waterfront Alliance during Climate Week NYC.
