The South Street Seaport Museum will host its monthly sea chantey sing in a hybrid format this winter, offering music lovers the chance to participate in person or online via Zoom. The first session is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 207 Water Street. Admission is free.
The museum’s sea chantey program, held the first Sunday of every month, continues through April 2026, bringing together participants to celebrate traditional maritime work songs and ballads. Attendees can sing along, lead a tune, or simply enjoy the music in a round-robin format that encourages community participation.
Preregistration is recommended for in-person attendance, and walkups will be accommodated as space allows. Participants who wish to lead a song are asked to provide the song title during registration. Zoom attendees must register in advance, and online participants interested in leading a song must submit their choice one week prior to the session.
All registrants, whether attending in person or online, will receive the Zoom link in their confirmation email. The hybrid format allows participants to join the musical tradition from wherever they are, preserving the centuries-old seafaring songs that have long been part of the museum’s programming.
