The South Street Seaport Museum, in partnership with Photoville, will launch a large-scale outdoor photography exhibition on Wednesday, April 22, to coincide with Earth Day.
The exhibition, titled “Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art,” features the work of Australian conservation photographer Jon McCormack. The collection will be displayed along the cobblestone streets at 207–211 Water St. through June 14.
The project spans a decade of environmental photography across five continents. The works explore the natural world at varying scales, ranging from microscopic mineral formations to aerial views of coastlines. Organizers say the installation is designed to reveal recurring patterns and rhythms in nature, inviting a “slower, more attentive way of seeing.”
“These images ask you to pause, to look more deeply, and to remember our collective place within a living, breathing system far larger than ourselves,” the museum said in an announcement.
McCormack is a noted conservationist whose work has appeared in TIME and The New York Times. Notably, the artist also leads camera software engineering for the iPhone at Apple; several of the images featured in the exhibition were captured using iPhone technology.
The outdoor display is free and open to the public without the need for registration or museum admission.
While the photography exhibition is accessible at all times, the South Street Seaport Museum’s historic ships—including the 1885 tall ship Wavertree—and its indoor galleries remain open to the public Friday through Sunday with a general admission ticket.
