South Street Seaport Museum will present “How to Read a Poem” on March 4 at 5:30 p.m. at 213 Water St., featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon.

The $45 program invites participants to discuss poems published that week in literary journals and magazines, examining not only their meanings but also the direction of contemporary poetry. Organizers say no prior experience or preparation is required. Poems for discussion will be provided at the session, and advance registration is required.

Since 2023, “How to Read a Poem” has been held at literary festivals and universities worldwide. The March event will take place in the first-floor gallery of the museum’s A.A. Thomson & Co. building.

Muldoon, who has taught at Princeton University for nearly four decades, served as Oxford Professor of Poetry from 1999 to 2004 and as Ireland Professor of Poetry from 2022 to 2025. His 15 major poetry collections include “Moy Sand and Gravel,” which won the Pulitzer Prize, and “Joy in Service on Rue Tagore,” named a New York Times Notable Book in 2024. He has also edited several anthologies, most recently “Scanty Plot of Ground: A Book of Sonnets.”

Tickets are available through the South Street Seaport Museum’s website.
