Indie rock legends Superchunk are headed to Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St, New York, NY 10002) on September 11, bringing their explosive energy and sharp hooks to one of NYC’s most iconic stages.

The band just dropped “Stuck in a Dream,” the final single before the release of their upcoming album Songs in the Key of Yikes, out August 22 on Merge Records. It’s classic Superchunk—high-octane, hook-heavy, and made to be heard live with a crowd shouting every word.

“Based on an actual dream that wouldn’t end, it’s a late-in-the-sequence upbeat number put there to reward everyone who’s listened that far,” Mac McCaughan explains. “Voted song most likely to become ‘fastest and most requested song on the record we never play live’ à la ‘Her Royal Fisticuffs’ and ‘Slow Drip,’ but I think we will learn it for real. Great backing vocals by Laura King.”

Superchunk announced Songs in the Key of Yikes recently with its opening track and lead single “Is It Making You Feel Something.” The track received praise from outlets like PitchforkConsequencePaste MagazineSPINStereogumThe Needle DropAV Club and NPR who called it “quintessential Superchunk” and said “they sound as vital and urgent and purposeful and completely inspired as they ever have,” and its follow up “No Hope,” which received praise from The New York Times who said “Old habits die hard. ‘No Hope’ applies Superchunk’s lifelong commitment to punk and indie-rock to the present moment: ‘Here we are singing “no hope, hope, no hope, no hope,”’ declares Mac McCaughan, Superchunk’s founder and leader since 1989. Punk’s response to oppression has always been defiant noise, loud major chords and singalong choruses flung at institutional foes. Will it be enough?”

Songs in the Key of Yikes is due August 22nd on Merge Records.
