Teatro Grattacielo secures major grants from NYSCA, NYC Cultural Affairs, and City Council

Teatro Grattacielo announced it has secured a series of significant grants from city and state agencies, marking a historic funding milestone for the New York-based opera company.

The organization has received its first-ever three-year, multi-year grant from the NYC Department of Cultural AffairsCultural Development Fund. In addition, the company was awarded funding from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York City Council through the FY26 Cultural Immigrant Initiative, supported by Erik Bottcher.

The combined awards represent a significant investment in the organization’s expanding cultural and educational initiatives in New York City.

“This unprecedented level of support from the city and the state is a clear recognition of our evolving mission,” said Stefanos Koroneos, general and artistic director of Teatro Grattacielo. “Today, our work goes far beyond opera. These vital funds will allow us to push artistic boundaries, nurture the next generation of global talent, and bring our educational programs to more communities than ever before.”

According to the company, the funding will support new artistic projects, the cultivation of emerging artists, and the expansion of its Creative Tableaux educational program. The initiative will also create internship opportunities and strengthen the organization’s leadership and artistic direction.

The grant from the New York State Council on the Arts is part of a record $80.9 million distributed to arts and culture nonprofits across the state for fiscal year 2026.

“New York’s arts and culture sector is a cornerstone of the state’s identity, and we’re making bold investments to ensure it remains strong,” said Kathy Hochul, governor of New York. “These grants will lift up artists and organizations in every region, fueling local economies and expanding access to the arts.”

Erika Mallin, executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts, said the funding reflects a continued commitment to supporting the state’s arts community.

“During these challenging times, NYSCA has been a stalwart and innovative funder,” Mallin said. “We know this support isn’t just an investment in the arts; it’s an investment in New York’s future.”
