The New York Pops has announced a slate of additional guest artists for its 43rd Birthday Gala, “Changed for Good: A Celebration of Stephen Schwartz,” scheduled for April 27 at Carnegie Hall.
Aisha Jackson, Brittney Johnson, Rachel Bay Jones, Telly Leung, Mary Kate Morrissey, Sherie Rene Scott, Paulo Szot, and Mary Testa will join the lineup to honor the Grammy, Academy, and Tony Award-winning composer. They join previously announced performers Shoshana Bean, Judy Kuhn, Lindsay Mendez, and Ben Platt.
Led by Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke, the evening will pay tribute to Schwartz’s extensive career. His credits include the music and lyrics for “Wicked,” “Pippin,” and “Godspell,” as well as his work on films such as “The Prince of Egypt,” “Pocahontas,” and “Enchanted.”
The gala serves as the primary fundraiser for the 78-member orchestra and its PopsEd music education programs, which provide instruction and performance opportunities to thousands of New York City public school students annually.
“Stephen Schwartz’s music has defined generations of theater and film,” the organization said in a statement. “This celebration brings together some of the most prominent voices in the industry to honor his lasting impact.”
Auliʻi Cravalho, who was previously announced for the program, will no longer be appearing.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, followed by a black-tie optional dinner and dance at the Mandarin Oriental New York. Concert-only tickets are available through the Carnegie Hall box office, while dinner-dance tickets can be purchased directly through The New York Pops.
The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States and is currently in its 43rd season. Recent gala honorees include Clive Davis and Barry Manilow.
