The New York Pops will present a sweeping retrospective of America’s musical heritage with The Music of Us: From Then to Now on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 8 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall.

Part of Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250  festival, the concert traces 250 years of American music, from Indigenous traditions and early spirituals to jazz, blues, rock ’n’ roll, R&B and contemporary genres. The program reflects the diverse voices and influences that have shaped the nation’s cultural identity since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the orchestra in a performance featuring guest artists Max Clayton, Nova Y. Payton, and Ephraim Sykes, along with Indigenous American courting flutist Tchin, five-string banjo player Hilary Hawke, and Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA.

Selections will include such iconic songs as “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “I Got Rhythm,” “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and “Last Dance,” among others, highlighting the evolution of American song across generations.

“We are so excited to be a part of Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound festival with this program that spans 250 years of American music,” Reineke said in a statement. “It’s an ambitious, eclectic program, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”

The concert is one of several highlights in The New York Pops’ 2025–26 Carnegie Hall season, which also includes If I Ain’t Got You: The Best of R&B on Feb. 13 and the orchestra’s 43rd Birthday Gala, Changed for Good: A Celebration of Stephen Schwartz, on April 27.

Tickets for The Music of Us: From Then to Now are available through carnegiehall.org, by phone at 212-247-7800, or at the Carnegie Hall Box Office at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Founded in 1983, The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States and is now in its 43rd season. Led by Reineke, the orchestra is dedicated to celebrating America’s popular music traditions through performances, education programs and community outreach across New York City.
