The Resident Acting Company will present Eugène Ionesco’s absurdist classic The Bald Soprano at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture in New York City. Previews begin Oct. 11, 2026, with an official opening night scheduled for Oct. 15, and the production runs through Nov. 1 at the Frank Shiner Theater, located at 18 Bleecker Street.
Directed by Bradford Cover, the play examines empty conversation and linguistic breakdown through a dinner gathering that descends into clichés, non sequiturs, and contradictions. Ionesco originally conceived the piece while learning English, transforming simple practice sentences into a commentary on human communication.
The six-member cast features Rachel Botchan, Anique Clements, Dominic Cuskern, Dan Daily, Carine Montbertrand, and Andy Paterson. The performance schedule runs Sunday at 2 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. from Oct. 11–17, shifting to include additional 2 p.m. matinees on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Oct. 18 through Nov. 1.
Tickets cost $33.85 for preview performances and $65.87 for general admission performances, inclusive of fees, and are available online through Eventbrite. Additional production details and venue information can be accessed through the company’s website.
The Resident Acting Company formed following the 2017 closure of The Pearl Theatre Company, which last staged The Bald Soprano in New York in 2011. Written more than 75 years ago, Ionesco’s play has also performed continuously at the Théâtre de la Huchette in Paris since 1958.
