Australian indie-rock sensation The Temper Trap is back with a powerful new single, “Giving Up Air,” marking the band’s continued comeback after a nine-year break. Following last month’s release of the edgy, indie-rock anthem “Lucky Dimes,” the band delivers a soaring, synth-driven track that pairs euphoric festival-ready choruses with introspective lyrics exploring grief, loss, and the glimmers of hope that follow.
‘Giving Up Air’
Lead vocalist Dougy Mandagi shares the deeply personal inspiration behind the track: “Giving Up Air is a very important song for me about a life-changing moment and the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one in tragic circumstances—from the initial shock to sorrow and then anger, and finding glimmers of hope somewhere in between. Some of you may recognize it. It was written for my solo project Bloodmoon but the boys and I started working on it as The Temper Trap and it felt magical, like it had found its true home.”
Produced by Grammy-nominated Styalz Fuego, known for his work with Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, The Knocks, and Khalid, “Giving Up Air” showcases the band’s signature atmospheric sound while exploring new emotional depths.
The Temper Trap’s recent singles, “Lucky Dimes” and “Giving Up Air,” continue the band’s creative resurgence. “Lucky Dimes” quickly became a fan favorite, earning airplay on triple j, double j, Sirius XM’s Alt Nation in the U.S., and UK stations including Radio X and BBC 6 Music. Both singles also saw strong digital playlist support, landing on Spotify’s ALT NOW, Rock Out, and Indie Brandneu playlists.
In recent years, the band has collaborated on high-profile projects, including “Love Lost” with Mac Miller, which has amassed 400 million streams, and remixes of their breakout hit “Sweet Disposition” by artists such as John Summit, Vintage Culture, VXSION, and Lost Frequencies. The band’s enduring impact was highlighted when “Sweet Disposition” ranked #11 in triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian Songs of All Time.
See them in Brooklyn
Fans in New York won’t want to miss The Temper Trap’s headline show on November 6 at Warsaw in Brooklyn, part of a North American tour including stops in Canada and Los Angeles. With both new singles and classic hits, the band promises a night of soaring choruses, synth-heavy anthems, and the emotional intensity that has defined their career.
Tickets are available now through Warsaw’s official website and authorized ticketing outlets. This highly anticipated performance gives Brooklyn fans a chance to experience the band’s resurgence live and celebrate the return of one of Australia’s most influential indie-rock bands.
