Voices of Ascension, the New York City-based professional chorus, will join forces with Dark Horse Consort to perform Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension (W 10th St, 5th Ave, New York, NY 10011) in Greenwich Village.
The large-scale performance features double choir, period instruments including recorders, cornetti, sackbuts, theorbos, harpsichord, and organ, and a fleet of soloists. The collaboration aims to combine rigorous historical scholarship with expressive musical depth in a rarely staged interpretation of this Early Baroque masterpiece.
“Our performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers captures what Voices of Ascension does best: combining rigorous scholarship with awe-inspiring depth,” said Jonathan Bradley, executive director of Voices of Ascension. “Presenting it in all its grandeur with integrity remains central to our artistic identity.”
The ensemble, internationally recognized for recordings such as Beyond Chant: Mysteries of the Renaissance, continues its mission of illuminating Renaissance and Baroque repertoire for contemporary audiences.

The group’s next concert, Masters of the Renaissance: The Netherlands School, is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the same venue, exploring works from Josquin des Prez to Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
