New York City-based new music collective Wet Ink Ensemble will open its 28th season on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Zürcher Gallery, located at 33 Bleecker Street.
The program features world premieres of compositions for small ensemble and electronics by Wet Ink members Alex Mincek, Mariel Roberts Musa, Modney, and Sam Pluta. Mincek will perform on saxophone, Modney on violin, Musa on cello, and Pluta on electronics.
The featured pieces developed through Wet Ink’s long-term collaborative working process, where compositions progress through multiple stages of performance and documentation. According to violinist and co-director Modney, the concert showcases initial steps that will eventually be expanded into larger-scale compositions in future seasons.
The ensemble is co-directed by an octet of composers, improvisers, and interpreters who collaborate over extended periods to write, prepare, and tour original works. Three of the composers featured in the opening program—Mincek, Modney, and Pluta—are Guggenheim Fellows.
Named the best classical music ensemble of 2018 by The New York Times, Wet Ink has presented new music concerts in New York City and internationally for over 20 years. In addition to live performances, the group produces the Wet Ink Archive online journal and has held residencies at institutions including Columbia University, Duke University, and the Royal Academy of Music.
Tickets for the September 27 concert are available online and at the door with a suggested price of $20, a pay-what-you-can option, and free admission for students.
