White Wave Dance will present the New York premiere of “Here NOW So Long” from May 21–23 at New York Live Arts, marking the latest chapter in Artistic Director Young Soon Kim’s career-spanning multimedia series.
The production is the third installment of Kim’s “Here NOW” cycle, which previously toured major South Korean cultural hubs including Seoul and Gwangju. The 48-minute performance at New York Live Arts serves as a precursor to a planned 70-minute evening-length work currently in development.
“Here NOW So Long” explores human emotion through 12 vivid scenes that integrate contemporary dance with panoramic video imagery and a live original score. The work features a collaboration with composer Marco Cappelli, who will perform live on guitars and electronics, alongside visual designs by filmmaker Hao Bai and dramaturgy by former Yale professor James Leverett.
“The work extends and breaks the boundaries of contemporary dance with themes of love, longing, and inner conflict,” the company said in a statement.
Led by Kim, WHITE WAVE Dance has been a prominent fixture in the international “Hallyu” or Korean Wave movement for decades. The company’s history includes performances at the 1988 Summer Olympics World Dance Festival and the 2019 FINA World Championship Masters’ Games, as well as several seasons at BAM Fisher and the Ailey Citigroup Theater.
The production features a company of nine dancers, including Michael Bishop, Kaylan Bradford, and Soomin Eum. Opening night on May 21 will include a post-show celebration with the artists.
Tickets for the engagement at 219 W. 19th St. are $45 for general admission and $35 for students and seniors. For more information and to purchase tickets, the public can visit the WHITE WAVE Dance website. Click here to purchase tickets.
