Whitney Leavitt to return as Roxie Hart in Broadway’s ‘Chicago’
Whitney Leavitt will return to the Broadway production of Chicago as Roxie Hart from March 23 through April 5 at the Ambassador Theatre, producers announced.
Leavitt, known for Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” and ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” made her Broadway debut in the role on Feb. 2. Her limited return engagement follows what producers described as overwhelming demand. She will not perform from March 16–22.
“Chicago,” featuring a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Ebb, is the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. The Tony Award-winning revival, produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, won six Tony Awards in 1997, including Best Musical Revival, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
The current cast also includes Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Tam Mutu as Billy Flynn, Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton, Greg Hildreth as Amos Hart, and M. Kilgore as Mary Sunshine.
Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking, the production remains a staple of Broadway. Set in the 1920s, the musical follows Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who manipulates the media and the legal system after being charged with murder.
Tickets are available at the Ambassador Theatre box office, located at 219 W. 49th St., and online at chicagothemusical.com. Regular performances are held Mondays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with additional performances scheduled April 1 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
